Wild outside, dozy inside

Not the impression people normally have of me, rather the reverse, but it's been that way around the boat today. The weather lived up to forecast, blowing and raining with greater or less ferocity all day. We've not been down to the lock to check the state of the river, but the pound outside the portholes has had breaking waves on it from time to time.

This is equivalent to force 4 to 5 on the Beaufort scale, so pretty impressive inland. Some of the gusts fairly rocked the boat, though mostly it's been blowing on the stern. The engine room and bedroom have been pretty chilly.

Indoors we settled down to entertain ourselves as if it were winter. I made a brave expedition to the paper shop (I actually considered not getting one), and Sheila has been working hard on the latest crochet order. This afternoon, I stripped down the computer connections, cleaned the desk and dusted everything off. I've recently invested in some brilliant stuff, double sided Velcro strip. Five meters cost less than a fiver, posted to me, and you can cut it to length to make reusable cable ties that look very neat.

I've been tidying all the various charger cables with it, and used some to make the cat's cradle behind the computer a bit neater.

Apart from that, not a lot to report, except for some brave/barmy boats which have been seen going up and down the river lock. I can sympathise with the hire boats, who have to get back to base on time, but a couple of them have been privateers who went the other way yesterday. Why take the risk if you don't have to? It's seriously not nice out there!

I think Bruce underrated the wind force. The descriptions of water movement on the Beaufort Scale are more applicable to sea conditions. Going by the movement of the trees I would guess it was more like force 6/7 with whole trees in motion in the stronger gusts.
