Successful Saturday

After a relaxed evening yesterday, we had a similarly relaxed start this morning. Recycling was dumped, Sheila popped into the village to post a birthday card and get a paper, and at half ten Elanor and Sally turned up by arrangement. Sally stayed on the boat to look after Sheila, whilst Elanor and I drove over to Stone, half an hour on the A50 and link roads rather than seven days by boat.

Admittedly, that includes two days when we didn't move, but for us that's all part of boating; you don't want to move every day, that would suggest that you were in a hurry.

I collected the paint and we noticed President, not the last steam powered narrowboat, tied on the shop mooring. She's on her way south to take part in the Jubilee Pageant on the Thames.

After a quick visit to Morrisons for a loaf of bread, we headed back through deteriorating conditions. Driving in the rain is much more stressful than boating in it, even if you don't get wet.

After lunch we took Sally for a charge about in the fields, and met Irene from Free Spirit on our way back. It's always good to meet up with a fellow blogger.

I've been able to chill out a bit this afternoon, whilst Sheila has been having an orgy of washing, taking advantage of the ability to tumble dry the stuff as soon as it comes out of the washer.

Tonight, Trevor and Rachael are coming round for a drink. Regulars will remember that we had a coffee with them not long before leaving for our trip, but plans for a follow up evening session were frustrated by Trevor succumbing to a cold. It'll be good to have another discussion about the finer points of having a boat built.
