The book is on its way

Well, it's done. No, don't all rush off to Amazon to buy it, it won't actually appear for sale until tomorrow, but I've uploaded it to Amazon and it's passed its review process there. I guess it takes a few hours for the new books to propagate across the Amazon servers worldwide. I wasn't absolutely, totally satisfied with the final result (now there's a surprise); some of the font sizing is still not right, but it's really weird, I can't see it either in Sigil or Kindle Previewer, only when it's actually on the Kindle proper. It's not fatal, so folk will just have to put up with it for now.

I might try again to sort it when I do the second edition; I suspect it means stripping out all the text formatting in Sigil and redoing it, at which thought my heart quails, frankly. I've just seen quite enough of my own limping limpid prose for just now.

When I come to do Sheila's book, I'm going to tackle it rather differently, doing only basic formatting and setting up the Contents page with its hyperlinks in Pages, then exporting it as an ePub out of Pages and importing it into Sigil for all the other formatting like chapterisation and so on.

A small libation may be consumed on board Sanity Again tomorrow when it's actually for sale. When it is, I'll also make it available privately as an ePub for those who have ebook readers other than the Kindle; that will be by direct sale from me – use the email link on the right to pre-order if you want one.

After lunch, we took a walk to Betty's Farm to collect the large piece of gammon I ordered the other day. On the way back, we got some other stuff in the Co-op and collected my prescription from the pharmacy. Note well, the Willington pharmacy shuts for lunch from one till two o'clock, resulting in us hanging around for ten minutes.

We've been taking it easy otherwise.

Oh, one further thing; the T-mobile connection has gone dead slow, dropped right down to 2G, so I'm using the 3 MiFi modem instead; I'm glad I agreed to keep it as a back up, now.

Congratulations! It's a real achievement to actually get a book done and published.

Hopefully you will be my inspiration to get some writing of my own done - thought he only thing that people are clamouring for is more of Lynx's diary - typical!

Congratulations!
It's appeared on Amazon.com. (And it was such a bargain price, I couldn't resist ordering it.)

Thanks folks. Amazon obvioulsy believe in positive discrimination, they've put Sheila's name first on the author list, though they are in the right order in the book upload page. Very odd, but not a mega problem I guess.

Sue: a book about a dog's life on board would be a best seller, i'm sure!

J: Thanks for your custom, I'm flattered. I didn't feel able to charge very much, as it's mostly a reworking of the blog. It's certainly very different from the last thing I had published ;)

All the best
