Burst of retail therapy again

We were both wide awake by six, so it was another early start today, getting away just after seven. My turn to steer, and it was a pretty uneventful chug through Whittington, past Hopwas Woods and through Hopwas village to arrive at Sutton Road Bridge just on nine, with a washload finishing itself off as we did so.

We're virtually on our own on this side of the bridge, though there's a boat tied on the other side which has been there every time we've come through here recently.

After a mug of coffee and some web browsing, we made an expedition into the retail parks; various bits and bobs on the first trip, including some carpet tiles from the new, huge B&Q. We plan to tile the hull side alongside the side berth, to make the berth a bit cosier to sleep on and to remove any tendency for damp to collect where the back cushion prevents ventilation when it's not in use as a bed. The B&Q budget blue tiles proved to be a very close match (ie, they look the same to me, but Sheila can see a difference) to the blue of the cushions.

We each got a pair of Slazenger sandals in the Sports Direct sale, for wear both on and off the boat; it's handy to have shoes that are normally used indoors, but which aren't bothered by a bit of towpath grit if you have to nip out to tighten a mooring line or chat to a passer-by.

Indeed, they'll be good for general wear when the hot weather arrives any day now…

This afternoon, we visited the new John Lewis at Home store; it's enormous as well, and we had a happy wander about before buying a carving fork and a slotted spoon for non-stick pans. I've not been using a proper carving fork since we moved on board, but just lately we've been eating more roasts, so getting the right tool seemed sensible before my general cack handedness resulted in the loss of a finger or two.

After that, it was into Sainsbury's for a good restock and then the plod back to the boat.
