As forecast, it's been a wetter day today, though the rain has been nothing like as heavy as before. It's more of a misty, murky sort of stuff, with occasional heavier bursts. It's still very unpleasant to be out in, very wetting.
As a result, apart from a walk into the village this morning for the usual bread and a paper, we've been sitting tight in Sanity Again. The river section at Alrewas has reopened, though it's still well in the amber. We're keeping our fingers crossed that this rain won't be enough to close it again before Monday; the worst of the rain is forecast for the south of here, not around Stoke and Stafford, the catchment for the water that comes past Alrewas..
We'd had a few false alarms from the smoke detector recently, the last one in the middle of the night last night. I'd given it a good clean after the first one, which is about all you can do yourself under the circumstances, so I called the tech support number given on the back of the unit.
The guy from Wilts Fire and Rescue who put it in for us had said that Fire Angel were very helpful, and gosh was that true. I got an answer phone when I rang, but later in the morning they called back. The chap diagnosed a faulty sensor, and said that he'd get a replacement unit in the post to me first class today, free of charge. They don't want the old one back, just said to take it to the tip.
It is nice to get quality service from time to time.
Sheila's been running a couple of wash loads, and we watched another Campion episode, but otherwise it's been a matter of reading and the odd bit of pottering.
Tomorrow, we're going over to Findern to look at an Open Garden, and we're dog sitting that night, whilst Elanor goes off to an office do. Then on Sunday, there's a fun dog show at the Capable Canines base in Alrewas, so we plan to go to that. It'll give us a chance to look at the river section for ourselves, hopefully.
If all seems well, we'll finally head off out of here on Monday.
