Shopping as recuperation

After persuading us that Autumn was here already, the weather has reverted to Summer, which made for a very pleasant recovery day. First thing, we walked up to the Co-op for bread, paper and some chicken fillets to turn into Thai green curry tonight.

On the way back, we diverted into the retail park just below the moorings, and called in at Homebase, where we found some nice water glasses last time we were here. This time we were looking for wine glasses; we've only three left of the six we started with, so, when we have guests, they get the glass ones and we stick with our acrylic beasts. The only thing is, the acrylics are quarter bottle size rather than a sixth, so it looks as if you're serving the guests in deliberately smaller glasses.

We found some nice ones with a swirly effect up the bowl in the end of line reduced section, so a result there. They also had some bedding, and we've been thinking that it's time we replaced the duvet and pillows before the winter…

Adding some mini paint rollers for redoing the black sheen on the gunwales completed the raid, and we ended up staggering out of the store laden with parcels.

Back at the boat, we put it all away and started the engine preparatory to doing a washload. Normally we'd not run the engine on a non-moving, sunny day, but Sheila needs to catch up a bit, and of course changing the bedding will mean changing the bed, so there's another couple of loads straightaway.

The first load was all done by the time we'd had lunch, and the steady breeze combined with warm sun should mean that the stuff will be dry on the whirligig and ready to put away by the time I've finished doing this post.

The afternoon has passed by doing other little jobs in connection with the forthcoming Open Day and Owners' Weekend, like printing more Owners' Group window cards and producing various lists. It looks like we'll have 40 folk at the Saturday night barbecue; the first time we did this four years ago, we had maybe 20 owners at the Open Day, with a dozen left for the final meal together on the Sunday. This year, there'll be 24 still there on Sunday.

How we're going to get everyone together in the tent and gazebos for the Saturday quiz I don't quite know; a penalty of a successful idea, I guess.

Tomorrow, we'll carry on to Adlington, then do the final easy bit to Poynton on Monday morning. I've booked an Ocado delivery for Monday afternoon, to start stocking up in readiness for the weekend.

My curiosity is getting the better of me. Just how do you make a Thai green curry from bread, paper and some chicken fillets? LOL
