Not too freaky Friday

After yet another lazy start, we saw from the weather forecast that things were not likely to improve as the day went on, so didn't potter about too much before setting out to walk into the village. Here we collected my meds from the pharmacy and got some bread and meat from the Co-op.

Back at the boat, there was just nice time for a cup of coffee and to sort out and light the fire before lunch. A fair few boaters are now keeping their stoves in 24 hours, but I don't see the need for that yet. The Hurricane does a good job of heating the back of the boat first thing, and the saloon isn't that cold whilst we're having breakfast.

It means that a scuttle of coal is lasting at least two days, whereas we'd be getting though a scuttle a day, and overheating the boat, if we didn't let the stove go out. The only additional expense is a bit of kindling and a firelighter each day.

By the time we'd finished lunch the sky had become very gloomy and the wind was getting up, but it hasn't yet started raining. Looking at the Met Office site, there is a serious belt of rain heading our way, scheduled to pass over during the night. Hopefully, it will be clear by the morning, as we plan to join the volunteer group doing some scrub bashing tomorrow.

The dark and gloomy afternoon gave us the excuse to watch the first episode of the Sherlock DVD Elanor had left us. I can quite see what all the fuss was about; we thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to the remaining two episodes on the DVD we've got. Must encourage Elanor to get some more…

After the definitive job the Jeremy Brett series did of the original settings, this was probably the only way to go, a brilliant update which still preserves much of the mood and feel of the Conan Doyle, and takes the chance to make neat little cross references to his work, like the "three patch problem".

Meanwhile, Sheila is still working on improving the anti drip system below the mushroom vents, so no pictures yet; it's coming on by leaps and bounds, but still has room for further developments.

We enjoyed Sherlock too - but we 'recorded' some on the digi-whotsit and got at least 1 DVD so we're not sure whether we've seen the whole lot yet!
