Getting back to normal

Guess what we did today…

Actually, I've made a New Year's Resolution not to mention buying bread in this blog this year.

DRAT!

Oh well, I don't really believe in resolutions anyway.

Today has been a return to normal though, with a leisurely start and a trip to the village to reload the wallet apart from anything else. This afternoon, we took a walk round to Midland Chandlers to buy some of their Heatabix compressed wood blocks. It's pure curiosity, really. If they perform as claimed, they'll be a bit more expensive than coal; I paid £11 for 2 x 10 kg packs, where the Still Waters shop is charging £8 for 20 kg of Signal smokeless fuel, which seems to be an Excel clone for those familiar with that stuff.

The Heatabix is better for the environment, of course, being formed from scrap wood and manufactured in the UK. (A lot of smokeless fuel is imported, either as the ingredients or even as the manufactured fuel.) I'll let you know how we get on with it.

We've also had a natter with various of our friends and acquaintances around the place as we and they wandered about, catching up on how they've survived Christmas and the like.

One lighter note: Sheila put on a hoodie this morning that she hadn't worn since one of the pre-Christmas parties, and a ripe cherry tomato fell out of it. She vaguely remembers losing a tomato that evening; it must have been lurking in the kangaroo pouch ever since. It was quite edible, but it's a good job she didn't leave the top in the wardrobe much longer…

Tomorrow, Sheila is off to the hairdresser in the morning, and we'll boat over to the service wharf in the afternoon to get a pump out and refill with diesel. We're presently going for around six weeks between such trips, so that should take us well into February.
