Slow change

It wasn't as cold last night, but it had snowed heavily overnight (by local standards, that is, maybe an inch). This had frozen to the pontoon this morning, so we had one last session of brushing, scraping and downright kicking the stuff into the water.

Then we walked to Betty's Farm to stock up with meat for next week. I got a piece of topside for tomorrow and some stewing steak with which to make goulash tonight. I also picked up half a kilo of chicken breast fillets to pop in the frozen food compartment.

Calling in at the Co-op on the way back, there was a nice looking bit of boiling ham with a decently long death date on it, so I've acquired that as well; pea soup later in the week, methinks.

After a well earned cup of coffee, we toddled round to the shop here and bought another two bags of smokeless fuel. We did indeed get through the last couple a bit quickly in the cold, but these will probably survive a bit longer.

After all that activity this morning, we've been taking it easy this afternoon, watching another episode of Travelling Man and reading the paper. It occurred to me to wonder what happened to its star Leigh Lawson after that series was finished; from his Wikipedia entry, he's had a very productive career spanning film, TV and the "legit" theatre, as well as marrying Twiggy and working as her business manager. What a lucky chap, it sounds very fulfilling.

Finally, as happened last time we had serious snow, the T-mobile signal has disappeared; by putting the modem in one of the side hatch windows I'm getting a just about usable Orange signal, presumably from a distant mast.
