Here's an unusual excuse; the weather's too nice to spend ages inside the boat blogging.

I mustn't omit to say what a good evening we had last night however, catching up with Chris and Anne. We started off by talking about toilets, which got that compulsory topic out of the way before getting down to the joys of living in a small village and a whole range of other stuff. We didn't even get particularly inebriated, just drinking enough to oil the conversational wheels.
It was great to spend time with you both, and we look forward to doing it again sometime.
After the second decent night's sleep in a row for both of us, we made a leisurely start today, not boating off until eight. It was a slowish run down Atherstone, with most of the locks against us, but before eleven we'd tied below lock 5 and, after a quick coffee, went shopping, mostly in Aldi for a change.
Back to the boat in nice time for lunch then onward and downward to tie with lots of choice in the long pound between 9 and 10. The only downside was that, whilst mooring, one of the carbine hooks holding a fender onto its suspension line decided to bite my left middle finger, quite painfully.
A couple of steristrips and a plaster has sorted the damage – I do worry that I seem to be getting even more cack handed as I get older. I'm also drinking a bit less these days – is there a connection, I wonder?

Tomorrow, on to Alvecote and hopefully a meal in the Samuel Barlow; I'm just off to see if I can book a table (they don't open until four on a Tuesday, remember).
