Riding out the storm

BRITAIN BATTERED BY STORMS: in the old hot lead type setting days, that was a headline that could be left for reuse; nowadays, I guess it’s held as a text clipping on the sub's desktop. It’s certainly appropriate yet again today; we’ve been spending most of the day battened down with the wind howling round the cabin and the boat rocking in the gusts.

We did manage a couple of brisk walks round, well bundled up. On the second of these we saw that the marina has suffered some damage; the roofs of two of the blocks of storage sheds have come adrift, and the main gates were forced through in the wrong direction and needed Stuart’s attention.

Despite all this sturm und drang, the piling went on steadily, having not stopped until six last night and restarting at half seven this morning. It’s all quiet now, I think because they’ve run out of piles. It was too fierce out to take photos; we’ll try and get some later.

We’ve not been idle in here, though; we’ve been sorting the Napier Family Calendar, choosing 13 photos from this year’s crop (12 months and one for the cover). Sheila then had her annual wrestle with the layout in Numbers, the Mac equivalent of Excel, converting 2013 to 2014.

She then transferred the result to my desktop and I poured in the photos. As usual, I’ll put them up as a Flickr album in January.

And that’s about it for today; soup again tonight. Tomorrow evening Sally is coming to stay for the weekend, so there may be a blog from her on Saturday; I’ll see how she feels about that.
