The wind forecast had moderated a bit this morning and it was a glorious day, so we've moved on after all. In fact, we had a very straightforward run to Stone, waiting briefly below Aston Lock for a boat to come down but otherwise making steady progress.
By leaving just after eight we got to Stone before ten. We'd seen several boats come by so were not surprised to find space on the visitor moorings below Star Lock. After an early coffee we set out to get some shopping done. It being Sunday, only Morrisons was open. Hopefully we'll be here on another day on the way back and will be able to avail ourselves of the generally excellent shopping.
After lunch Sheila spent a good chunk of time tidying up the flower troughs which were looking a bit forlorn after all the rain. It was still very pleasant out of doors, so I sat in the well deck to do a few more rounds of half hitching on the fender.
The locals make good use of the towpath; this means both the opportunity to chat to passers-by and some amusement at overheard remarks whilst we are out of sight below.
The moorings have filled up by now, naturally. There was a space behind us for a while, but someone has just demonstrated that even a bow thruster is not enough to avoid the chance of clouting us whilst trying to moor.
:(
Heigh ho, tomorrow we'll water and then head up the Stone and Meaford flights to Barlaston for the night.
