Quieter day today, though not weatherwise

Tiree did indeed come back in good time yesterday, so we saw Geoff, Jean and crew off and happily on their way, then got her pumped out and fuelled up. A bit of dog poo had got trodden into the well deck at the last moment, so we pulled back onto the water point, scrubbed it off and filled the tank, since we were there.

This took quite a while, but Stewart Hooper off working boat Anne came by and regaled us with his tales of the cut until the tank was full.

Finally, we put her in the yard, up the middle between ourselves and One Day, and hooked up a shoreline so that the batteries would be well charged for the next hirer.

By now it was six o'clock, so we had a beer, then I cooked ship's hash, it being too late to do much else.

This morning we had a leisurely start. The wind did indeed get up overnight, as forecast, with occasional rain showers, so we were very pleased to find that we don't have to leave the yard today. Our Ocado delivery came just at the end of the booked slot; with Sanity Again right by the road entrance, it didn't take long to transfer the goodies.

During a chat with Peter, we were shown the Mastervolt ICC remote panel, that lets you monitor and switch on and off the Mass Combi inverter charger. This seemed like a handy feature, as we turn the combi off overnight when cruising and relying on the battery bank. The combi draws about 1.5 amps on its own account, so it makes a bit of a difference to have it off overnight.

Apart from that, it's been quite quiet. The Walls turned up to take Tiree out, Ian Grindrod came and fitted the ICC (we're just waiting for a cable to connect it up, the supplied one being too short) and we've just had a chat with Peter about some more boat juggling we're going to do tomorrow.

Hi Bruce
Confused as usual :-)
Why have you only just been shown the ICC panel when they are supplied as standard with the Combi you already have?
Cheers
Roger

Don't worry, old man, it's just your age…

;)

Whatever they may have done, the ICC doesn't come as standard these days; it's an optional accessory, I guess because if you're going down the Masterbus route, you wouldn't want it, having the much more detailed Masterlink MICC fitted instead. The ICC RRP is £150, though Peter bulk bought some and got the price down quite a bit.

We didn't go for one originally because on Sanity we left the Victron on all the time, having a 230v fridge freezer, and initially planned to do the same on SA.

However, I've been persuaded of the desirability of turning the combi off at night to save battery power, and so it's handy to put the ICC in the bedroom for that purpose, as well as keeping an eye on what it's up to without having to open the electric cupboard.

Hope you are enjoying the BCB Festival, and regards to Yvonne.

All the best

Bruce
