The last really cold day for a bit

It's been a final brilliantly sunny but cold afternoon this afternoon, though this morning was rather cloudy and yuck. The forecast is for wind and rain again tomorrow, but much milder with it. We've had Sally with us today, enjoying her new bed and happily unaware of her loss in never meeting Lynx.

I should catch up by saying that we had a good trip to Derby yesterday, getting a fancy new meat thermometer from Lakeland (one where you can set the target temperature for the meat and it tells you when the joint's got there), a supply of disposable nappies for drying out the stern bilges that are filling up with condensation, and a rubber mat from Wilkinson's to put in the glory hole bilge to keep the stuff in there up out of said condensation.

We also saw a swivel chair in The Home Store, the Florence swivel recliner, which Sheila had spotted online and wanted to examine in the flesh. It was quite narrow, and not expensive. The one in the shop seemed very comfortable, and was available for £240 delivered.

Back at home, Sheila found the same chair from Cheap Mobility Online at £204.50 delivered, so ordered two. These will replace the IKEA Poangs we've been using, which are OK, but not comfortable after sitting in them for a while, especially if you doze off. We just have to hope that the new ones turn up here when we're actually about…

Today, apart from pooch perambulating, I've dried out the glory hole bilge and Sheila cut the mat to fit in the bottom. The plan is to do each of the stern bilges in turn, so as to keep on top of the condensation.

The less good news here is that the shop was broken into overnight last night, and cigarettes and bottles of spirit stolen. An unsuccessful attempt had been made on Friday night, and over the weekend they'd strengthened the defences with shutters behind the windows and bars and deadlocks on the doors.

This time the sods came armed with a jemmy, and just jemmied the door open.

The marina's CCTV system goes live next weekend, so you do wonder about the timing, though it's probably just coincidence.

Tomorrow, we have a visit from future Braidbar owners Mick and Alison Tracey, who will become the proud owners of Three No Trumps, Braidbar 137, later this year. They are doing some shopping at Midland Chandlers, and taking the opportunity to meet up with us and Stephen and Jayne.

I wonder, is that boat name a Bridge too far?
