No, not a lack of showering or the consequence of using the wrong kind of laundry liquid; it's noticeable that, like swallows lining up on telegraph wires in the autumn, there's a mood spreading through the marina that it's time we were all boating again. It's the sight of the first few setting out that does it, I guess.
Fox on Grebe 2 went out today – we thought he was just going for a pump out, as a) the boat was leaning over a bit (his tank's off to one side) and b) he'd left the TV aerial up. But no, when we went out litter picking later in the day, there was no sign of him, either on the service wharf or the Willington moorings. I just hope he remembered to take the aerial down before going under the road bridge, that's all.
We ourselves spent this morning in the boat. Stephen and Jayne on Dolce had an Ocado delivery booked, and we'd said we would let it in if they texted us when it came. I'd had time to go to the shop for a paper and a bag of Supertherm before it arrived; we stood by to let it out again, but in the event a car coming in saved Sheila the walk up to the gate.
We've had a further think about our own plans. I'll need to collect a prescription at Alrewas as we go through, so as not to run out just as we get to Poynton, and the original plan would have meant we went through over the weekend. By delaying our departure from here by a day we'll be in Alrewas on Sunday night and can pick up the script (and some meat from Coates) on the Monday morning before we set off.
As indicated, this afternoon we did some litter picking on the towpath. Now that the snow has gone, there's a lot more to collect, and we'd filled the supplied black sack just between Potlocks Bridge and the railway bridge. Lots of it is where the kids have been partying behind the hedges, in the scrubby land between the canal and the railway embankment.
We got back just in time for mid afternoon tea, feeling very virtuous and well exercised. A quiet night tonight, a pottering day tomorrow and then the pleasure of Trevor and Rachel's company tomorrow night. It should be a good weekend.
Once we've confirmed the cunning cruising plan with Braidbar, I'll put it up here.
