A Quiet Friday at Fradley?

In the days when Fradley Junction was a major OwnerShips base, the Friday scene was so chaotic in the summer that we christened it "Freaky Fradley Friday". There would be a double bank of the shared ownership craft along the towpath above Junction Lock, making navigation up and down to and from  Middle Lock quite fraught. In addition, there would be boats coming up Junction, and out of the Coventry, and turning into the Coventry, and wanting to go straight on towards Rugeley, and wanting to go downhill to Alrewas, and lots of them would be comparatively inexperienced, and it all would get very entertaining if you weren't trying to go somewhere yourself.

Today, it's much quieter. There were a fair few boats about this morning, mostly up and down the T&M, but this afternoon has been positively dozy, and that's not just the effects of the Coates's pasties we had for lunch.

We ourselves had an active sort of start to the day; I walked into Alrewas to get some more meat and the aforesaid pasties – oh, and a paper – whilst Sheila did some cleaning in the boat. Since then, we've been pottering. I caught up with email correspondence and sorted the latest edition of the Braidbar Owners' Group Pub Guide, and Sheila's been finishing off the washload she did yesterday.

The weather has been occasionally showery, especially in the middle of the day, but just now has turned really nice, as though we may well see the forecast mini heat wave materialise over the weekend.

The moorings have gradually filled up, and there are various gongoozlers ambling about.

All in all, an idyllic scene.

Can I just say how much I like it when we get meat and paper buying combos? That is the quintessential Sanity 'village trip' - and I can breathe easy as I know all is still right with the world. In other news, Mr Greygal still hasn't gotten over the disappointment of missing out on the gourmet Scotch egg stall the other weekend...

Thanks for that - I've just bought pasties and a paper at Rugeley Morrisons, burt I realise it may not be quite the same.

Sally very worried by the Armitage Tunnel "Why has Granny got off and we haven't? What are all these white posts going past? Oh help, now we've got ducks as well!"

I'll check the Great Haywood Farm Shop for Scotch eggs for Mr GG's benefit…

All the best

All Scotch egg reports welcome. May be coming down that way soon. Pasties and paper very acceptable - can't pass a Morrisons on the canal myself without emptying the bakery. Sally may have been worried by the Armitage tunnel - but wasn't she curious about all those large slightly odd looking porcelain dog bowls too?
