November's nearly over

And it hardly feels any time since it began…

For the first eight winters of living aboard, I used to say that November was the hardest month. The nights remorselessly draw in, the weather is usually grotty and there's the long haul to Spring stretching out in front of you, only punctuated by the thought of Christmas, itself not necessarily the best thing ever to happen.

(Pause for cries of "Bah, humbug"…)

This year, though, despite all that, it's simply flown by. We came into the marina much earlier than we ever have before, in the middle of October, and yet we've not found ourselves sitting staring at the walls at all. In fact, progress on my  recipe book is being very slow, as I always seem to have an excuse to do something else.

Much of this is down to the social life here at Mercia. What with the end of season party, the Hallowe'en and Guy Fawkes do and, last night, the Quiz Night in the Willow Tree, it's just been a steady run of social events. In addition, we've been doing all our usual marina based stuff in the boat.

Last night was the crown of it so far; Stephen and Jayne from Dolce Far Niente joined us and we made a cracking team, coming joint first with 39/50 points and only finally losing on a tie break question about how many chimneys on the Toyota factory could be seen from outside the marina office (23 would you believe).

In addition, some rounds of Play Your Cards Right and Mr and Mrs were played in the interval and food and drink were supplied gratis by Hale and Pace, sorry, The Management.

We had a bit of a lie in this morning, then got a certain amount of internet stuff done. We've had a walk with the WfH group this afternoon in sparkling cold conditions, finishing with tea in the newly opened Kay's Tearooms in Willington.

Tomorrow, another Ocado delivery and then some recovery time, methinks.
