The cold snap continues, though we had a burst of rain first thing this morning, washing away the frost that had formed overnight. Elanor and Sally turned up a bit after ten. Sheila had gone down into the village to get some bread and meat, so three of us went to the field for a dash about. Sally was wearing her heavy coat (in fact a very small horse blanket), which we took off for the brisk exercise of chasing the toy tyre.
Sal normally tires of this after a bit (sorry), but today she decided to hang onto it. I think she has a theory that the aim of the outing is to exercise the humans, which she does by dropping the tyre some distance away, appearing to forget about it, then charging back and grabbing it whenever a one of us is about to pick it up.
Very funny from her point of view, and quite entertaining from ours too, if truth be told. She showed much less interest in rummaging for rabbits today, probably because the cold made it better for her to keep moving.
Back at the boat, we had a bit of time for family chat before Elanor went off to get on with her weekend chores. We stayed put, lunching as usual and only venturing out for a brisk walk round the marina in the early afternoon. The North wind is blowing again, so it's really still very parky.
It looks like things will be much the same tomorrow, then it might get a bit milder and wetter in the week. At least it means that the rivers are starting to retreat to their regular courses once more.
