This blog is about life on board our narrowboat Sanity Again, cruising the inland waterways of the UK (mainly in the spring, summer and autumn) and living in a marina in the winter. It's the way I choose to write it; if you don't like it, there are many other boating blogs.

Frustration
Hope may spring eternal, but hope oft deferred maketh the heart sick, and that’s been today’s story. Having decided in the small hours of this morning to cancel the Dunelm orders and get Elanor and Sheila to drive into Derby tomorrow to get as much of the stuff as would cram into the car, I found at breakfast time that the credit card had been charged for the first tranche of things, those that were to be delivered today at the latest.
On the other hand, I’d not had either the email or the text to say that they were on the way, so I rang customer services where a pleasantly spoken woman assured me that the order was with the carrier and should arrive today. Worryingly, she couldn’t see any tracking information for me, which presumably explained the lack of aforesaid text and email.
In addition the customer services number is an 0845 one, and although I’d found a geographic equivalent via SayNoto0800, it didn’t work. It’s all just very frustrating.
We’ve spent the day in the lodge doing things like putting an extra coat of Danish oil on the wooden furniture, as recommended by the supplier, and generally pottering about.
Surprise, surprise at the time of writing this no delivery has materialised and it now seems unlikely that it will. The customer services line stays open until 7, so guess what I’m doing later.
Dunelm is a great shop to visit, but don’t, whatever you do, use the on-line ordering system.
So that’s about it for today; when I’ve got this posted I’ll try and calm down enough to cook tea. We’re dog sitting tonight as Elanor has a works outing to go to and won’t be back until late.
