This blog is about life on board our narrowboat Sanity Again, cruising the inland waterways of the UK (mainly in the spring, summer and autumn) and living in a marina in the winter. It's the way I choose to write it; if you don't like it, there are many other boating blogs.

Meat and snags
We had two things to do today, snag the lodge and get meat from Betty’s Farm. The forecast indicated that this morning would be dry but the chance of rain went steadily up as the day went on. Calling into the office just after nine, we agreed to do the snagging this afternoon, after the cleaning team had been through.
It was quite warm, not to say muggy, as we walked to Betty’s; by the time we got there we were regretting wearing our waterproofs. Quantities of meat and other goodies were bought; Betty’s does a loyalty card scheme and ours was on its final stamp, meaning a 10% discount this time.
This was a good excuse for buying some rump steak… A nice thing about the butcher there is that he’s very ready to talk about the meat and the way that he’s cut it. There’s not usually a queue when we’re there, so I had no qualms about having a good chat about the different ways of preparing the best cuts of beef, such as the difference between picanha and rump steak.
It was quite late for coffee when we got back and afterwards I had just nice time to amend the Ocado order for tomorrow before we ate lunch.
At two o’clock we picked up the key for the lodge from the office. It was now starting to rain in earnest, good conditions for snagging a new building. We must have spent 90 minutes on this; it’s a great excuse to play with everything from the fancy oven to the emergency alarm in the wet room.
The oven and hob are Smeg, a quality brand but entertaining to those of us who were/are fans of Red Dwarf.
Back at the office we gave Lucy our little list of problems, none of them particularly major, though it will be good to see the blinds in place in the kitchen and bathroom windows and to have the wet room toilet flushing properly.
We’ll have a quiet evening before spending some more money at Midland Chandlers tomorrow.
