This blog is about life on board our narrowboat Sanity Again, cruising the inland waterways of the UK (mainly in the spring, summer and autumn) and living in a marina in the winter. It's the way I choose to write it; if you don't like it, there are many other boating blogs.

Shopping for the lodge in the rain
The weather’s been pretty awful today, cold and drizzly, but otherwise we’ve had a good one. Elanor and Sally turned up at half eight and we drove (much to Sal’s disgust) into Burton where we raided Family Bargains and then Wilko for a load of bits and pieces for the lodge.
This was stuff like mops, buckets, a dustpan and brush, a pedal bin for the kitchen and so on and so forth. Oh, and a co-ax cable for the tele. It’s all the kind of thing you’d have gone to Woolworth's for in the old days; that gap in the market’s been filled very effectively by these other cheap stores.
We’ve still got some other things like this to get, but the car boot was getting full and we were beginning to flag; there are only so many decisions you can take in one shopping session.
With the rain still drizzling down, we drove back to the lodge and had a mega unpacking session. I’m pleased to say that the TV works well; the marina pipes Freeview into the lodges so there’s a good choice without having to take out any subscriptions. We fitted stick-on felt pads to the furniture that didn’t already have non-scratching feet, then walked back to the boat for lunch.
Afterwards, Elanor took me to Betty’s Farm to get the week’s supply of meat, after which she and Sal were going to the quarry fields for a rather damp rummage and romp.
We’re all planning to have a quieter day tomorrow, before it’s back to the fray on Monday; Elanor has to work that day (or her co-workers won’t get paid), but we’ve got a set of pans arriving.
On Tuesday, Elanor will be back with us to go to the Burton Dunelm to collect the stuff we‘ve ordered on-line that they won’t deliver.
