Start of the big ordering sessions

Today the weather has turned cold as forecast; the wind’s gone round to the nor’ nor-west and the temperature’s been sinking steadily as a result. We made an early trip to the village to collect a prescription and do some perishables shopping, then had a coffee and pottered about sorting various stuff before lunch.

I’m pleased to say that the new phone seems to work very well indeed as a mobile wifi hotspot. Even with the less than perfect signal here, it’s been fine propped in the side hatch window. No doubt it will be even faster when we’re in a stronger signal area. It’s also much quicker for internal transfers between the computers than the Huawei routers.

After lunch we mentally girded our loins and started ordering stuff from Dunelm. What’s confusing is that although quite a bit can be delivered directly, some things can’t and there seems to be no great logic to the distinctions.

It’s understandable that things like knives and scissors have to be collected from the store in view of the legal restrictions on their sale, but whilst throws and towels can be delivered, tea towels and bath mats can’t. It's the same with the bedding; you can have duvets delivered, but not the covers for them.

Huh?

We’re going to have to make another trip to Derby on Saturday with Elanor to get the things that have to be collected; they can still be ordered up on line, which is good as Dunelm is accessible through the discount site TopCashBack I joined a while back with just this situation in mind.

By tea time we were pretty fed up with staring at the monitor and wrestling with these issues, despite a quick walk round the marina in the middle of a shower earlier on, so we’re leaving the final stages and the Argos order until tomorrow.

As may be imagined, there’s not been a lot of time or energy for much else today, and I suspect that it will be that way for a week or so. No matter, tomorrow we actually collect the keys to the lodge and will start doing stuff like putting pictures up and running the washing machine and dishwasher for the first time.

Yippee!
