Today has been the quiet day between two busy ones. Yesterday we had already been to the village for supplies before lunch, which is why Sheila didn’t fancy a long second walk in the afternoon. While Elanor and I were taking Sally for a serious trek along the towpath to Bridge 20 (the one they had to rebuild the other year) and then back through Findern, Sheila took a) a stroll round the marina and b) the photos Sally used of the big 22 tonne dumper.
Today we’ve had a couple of walks round the marina, stopping to take a photo of the view from the Walnut Lodge veranda for use on the web page on the marina site about it. Since that webpage isn't ready yet, here it is:
The present tenants have just extended their stay for another week and as we’ve taken a booking for Christmas week we’ll be lucky to get any time in there ourselves at this rate.
Heigh ho, can’t complain, at least it’s earning its keep.
My main task today has been topping up the batteries, not that they needed much. When the sun shines the solar panel puts a bit of voltage across them, otherwise they are just sitting on float from the charger all the time.
The huge pile of soil that was dug out making the foundation pits for the Boardwalk piles and clearing half the footprint of the building has now been moved to field three. The excavator is still rumbling away to itself as I type this. There’s the other half of the building footprint and then the car park behind it to do, so it’ll be a while before the Tonka toys leave us.
Tomorrow, I have an appointment with the nurse in the morning and then we’re off to Derby to get my new hearing aid fitted; I doubt if we’ll be back in time for me to do a blog, so don’t worry if you don’t hear from me until Friday. Mind you, on Friday Sheila’s going for a blood test and then we’re walking to Betty’s and then there’s going to be an Ocado delivery…
