In the middle of two busy days

Yesterday went very well, though hard work as expected. My diabetic review was fine; the staff at Willington are just as friendly as those at Alrewas. There was some concern that my BP has drifted up over the 12 months according to my own measurements, so Dr Farrell rang me in the early evening to suggest a slight change in meds.

He left the new prescription at the attached pharmacy for us to collect when convenient; excellent service, say I.

Our trip to Derby was very productive; we went into Lakeland to buy a new pair of oven gloves and ended up spending quite a lot of money on Christmas presents.

I’ve now been fitted with the hearing aid. It seems very odd at first as my auditory cortex gets used to the idea that my right ear is now working properly again. I’ve to go back in a few weeks time to check that all is well and quite possibly fine tune what the aid is doing.

The audiologist has started me off at 80% correction as otherwise the odd effects might be just too much to cope with, and he’ll crank up the gain over the next few months. The aid is effectively a tiny computer which has a 16 channel equaliser and three modes of working (quiet background, noisy background with talk, straight noisy background) and it automatically phases between the three to give the best result for actually hearing the important stuff.

Meanwhile, until  I’ve adapted to it a bit, eating crispbread is a surreal experience…

Sheila had to give a fasting blood this morning so I loafed in bed whilst she got up, showered and dressed and went off. I finally dragged myself out, had a bowl of muesli and a glass of fruit juice and pottered about.

When she came back, we went over to the Willow Tree for a cooked breakfast. We’re now doing stuff on the boat before Sheila is going for a hair appointment at 12. I’ll walk down to join her at half past and we’ll go on to Betty’s to stock up with meat for the weekend.

The Ocado delivery is booked for the four to five slot after which we can relax for a while.

Next blog post will be Saturday afternoon, probably.
