This blog is about life on board our narrowboat Sanity Again, cruising the inland waterways of the UK (mainly in the spring, summer and autumn) and living in a marina in the winter. It's the way I choose to write it; if you don't like it, there are many other boating blogs.

Quiet weather, quiet day
The weather seems to have settled into a very pleasant state for the moment; high pressure over the British Isles is keeping all those nasty depressions out in the Atlantic and we’re getting sunny, not very windy conditions largely, though with a very real risk of frost overnight.
Sheila’s been doing the Monday wash but otherwise it’s been a day for ambling about, browsing the web and walking.
We went round the marina this morning and had a serious excursion to Stenson Lock this afternoon. Here we found a guy single handing down, so we stopped and gave him a hand to do it. Those locks from here to Shardlow are bad enough with a crew, being broad, deep and heavy, but on your own they are a real trial.
We felt well exercised on our return and rewarded ourselves with a mini mince pie each with our tea. Such decadence…

The groundworks for the Boardwalk are progressing apace; Robert tells us that they should start moving the spoil round to field three tomorrow, so that’s Sally’s runs in there off the menu for a while, I guess. Elanor’s got a day off tomorrow, so we’ll see the two of them after lunch and can have a lie-in in the morning.
Once the topsoil’s all been stripped off they’ll start driving piles to support the buildings and the noise of the long reach excavator will be replaced by the thumping of the pile driver.
I expect Robert’s braced for the complaints from the moorers; some people don’t seem to like the idea of having a pub within easy walking distance.
