We plan to move back to the boat on Wednesday to give the cleaning team a choice of days to do the full clean before the next tenant comes in, so today has been the first of three domestic days. After a relaxed start we went over to the boat; Sheila finished off the family calendars whilst I pottered about getting some final bits and bobs out to move to the lodge and clearing up email on the desktop computer.
Then we walked into the village to post the calendars and get some perishable supplies. On the way back it started to chuck it down; fortunately, having seen the forecast, we were both wearing waterproof jackets but our legs got very damp. After calling at the shop for some milk, we retreated to the lodge.
Sheila's wash load had finished, so we added our damp trousers to the stuff to be tumble dried. Sheila had a spare pair to put on, but I had to resume my dressing gown, all my spare trousers being on the boat. So I swanned about over lunchtime pretending to be Noel Coward before getting my trousers back.
After lunch we had another go at the oven, repeating the vapour clean programme and then removing the drop down door to get at the stubborn stuff on the back wall. It now looks almost pristine which is very pleasing. Must say the vapour clean drill is very effective and should probably be used every time the oven's had a roast or similar in it.
Since that big effort we've been pretty quiet; tomorrow we'll start packing up our stuff in here, and do some cleaning in the boat. The flue is due for a sweep and that means that the cabin will benefit from a dust and sweep afterwards.
On Wednesday Elanor is coming across to help move our stuff back and we'll then give the Henry vacuum cleaner a quick run round the lodge so as not to leave the place looking too messy for the cleaners.
