A better Wednesday

Today has been a lot better than yesterday; Elanor’s on the mend and my visit to the dentist was comparatively painless.

Elanor hopes to get back to work tomorrow; she brought Sal over at lunchtime for me to run her in the field. Sal’s been a bit short of exercise, of course, whilst Elanor’s been confined to the house, so there was a lot of tyre chasing until she was well puffed.

Having a prep for a crown is never terribly pleasant, but as always at Alrewas it went smoothly. The worst bit is having those impressions taken; how come the holder thingy gets so much bigger whilst it’s in your mouth? It goes in easily enough, but it’s a real struggle to get it out again.

We had a chat in the office this morning with Jules and Josh about the occupancy levels here in Mercia. Depending on how you measure it, the rate is between 90 and 95%; not bad for the largest inland marina in Europe. Since the national average is 80% that reflects how popular this marina is – and deservedly so.

There’s currently a waiting list for wide beams (unless you buy one from New and Used Boat Co) and there are no spaces for GRP cruisers as all the gaps are next to steel hulled boats and the marina doesn’t moor the two kinds next to each other.

In addition, the list of those reserving a residential mooring for September is full, with a waiting list for current moorers and another for those not presently moored here. It’s quite likely that some people will not take up the option when all the details are known, of course, but anyone who thinks they might want a residential berth here would be well advised to give Jules or Josh a ring on 01283 703332.

Tomorrow, we go to Derby for the day again, then we’re entertaining Sally on Friday.
