This blog is about life on board our narrowboat Sanity Again, cruising the inland waterways of the UK (mainly in the spring, summer and autumn) and living in a marina in the winter. It's the way I choose to write it; if you don't like it, there are many other boating blogs.

Another Derby day
To Derby today, waiting for the bus in some rather unpleasant rain but then things went quite well. Our main appointment in the bank was for 12 noon, so catching the 10.25 got us there with an hour in hand. That’s the main drawback to using public transport, you often find yourself killing time in one way or another.
On the other hand, it’s an encouragement to potter, to explore, to try something new, whereas if you use a car, all too often it’s a case of trying to get everything done before the time runs out on the parking ticket.
Main purchase was a rather pricey “Mermaid” roasting tin and rack from guess where. Come to think of it, it’s a bit odd having a mermaid roasting tin; sounds cannibalistic to me and anyway, I’m not aware that mermaids have ever been reported in the Lake District…
/wahaha
The big thing about it is that it’s not non-stick (I'm fed up with scratching or bubbling teflon) but finished with hard anodised aluminium. Reports on its performance will follow.
The guy in the bank wasn’t too bad and only tried briefly to sell us other stuff; Nationwide is very pleasant to deal with and is now offering a free current account (FlexDirect) that pays 5% pa on credit balances for the first year, followed by 1% thereafter. You have to pay in £1,000 per month and it’s an internet, phone and ATM based account, but since we hardly ever use a cashier these days, that’s no hardship.
We bought some pasties from the pasty shop, dived round Sainsbury’s and still had loads of time to catch the 1 o’clock back. Not a lot has been done this afternoon; resting on our laurels, as it were.
Tomorrow, we have Sally, though as the forecast is for a lot of rain, she’s not going to get much exercise, I fear. Elanor (who is much better, thanks) says that trying to walk her in the rain is pointless – the rain goes down her ears, she gets grumpy and starts barking at people.
