This blog is about life on board our narrowboat Sanity Again, cruising the inland waterways of the UK (mainly in the spring, summer and autumn) and living in a marina in the winter. It's the way I choose to write it; if you don't like it, there are many other boating blogs.

A (mildly) exciting day
Today’s big excitement was me having a haircut…

Well, it’s exciting for me, sitting there whilst Sheila wields hair trimmer, beard trimmer and scissors round my head, face, eyes and throat (she even trims my eyebrows). Just shows how much I still love her, I reckon.

Actually, of more interest was some stuff about the proposed residential moorings in the notes of the latest Mercia forum meeting. It now seems very likely that, as from next September, the marina will have 180 residential berths, with postal address and all. It’s hoped to keep the additional cost down by getting folk to agree to move pontoons when requested, which has some esoteric implication for the amount of council tax payable.
It will certainly feel more comfortable to be on an officially residential mooring, though we’ll probably continue to use Elanor’s address for banking purposes and the like as that’s where we are registered to vote. It’s very common now for banks to use the electoral roll to check the validity of your address.
Finally, we may have a tenant for the next week, a last minute booking, possibly. We nipped over to the lodge this afternoon to put it into full, ready-to-receive-guests mode, taking away our own towels and tea towels, giving the kitchen sink a final polish and the like.
Having done all that, they’ll probably decide not to come, of course…
