Getting through a wild and wet Wednesday

It’s been another wild old day; we’re just glad we’re not in the worst affected area of the country and safely moored in a marina.

Canal Boat has finally arrived in the shop, at the same time as Waterways World, as I predicted. I’ve not had a chance to read them yet (the daily periodical takes preference, of course) but spotted two items of note:

First off, for the first time in several years, we’re not in the money in the Canal Boat Christmas quiz. We reckon we’d scored 47/50 but it clearly wasn’t enough. No matter, not a disgrace and well done to the winners.

Secondly, WW has not one but two reviews of recent Braidbar boats, a full one of Santiago, number 146, and a brief one of Inception, number 142. Both got excellent write ups so Peter and Susan are naturally very pleased. Furthermore, at just over the £100k, Santiago shows that a new Braidbar doesn't necessarily cost as much as you might think for a top end fit out.

This morning we also popped into the lodge to set the fridge freezer defrosting in anticipation of the next tenants coming in on Saturday. Apart from that, we’ve sat tight in the boat.

It was a chance to watch yet another Inspector Alleyn episode, Hand in Glove featuring John Gielgud and Geoffrey Palmer acting each other off the screen. A great way to pass a wet and windy afternoon.

Tomorrow, assuming that things are a bit calmer out there, we’ll take a long walk to the village in the morning; in the afternoon, we’ll have a session in the lodge giving it a final dust and vacuuming.
