We made an early expedition to the village, calling into Coates to get a couple of pasties to eat on the move tomorrow. Apart from that, we've stayed indoors all day. There was a lot of reading to be done and Sheila advanced her current crochet project a bit further.
It was miserable enough at lunchtime that we indulged in mugs of soup with our sandwiches. This afternoon, I started the engine to top up the batteries and took the opportunity to fire up the big computer and add an entry to the Pub Guide about the Crown.
We had a very good meal there last night. The make over for once has substantially improved the place, which was very barn like before, and the grub was excellent. Thursday night is fish night, though you can have a pizza if not in a piscatorial mood. We had salmon and pancetta fish cakes for starters, followed in Sheila's case by prawn and chilli fusilli and in mine by smoked haddock with sauté potatoes.
There was plenty of other choice on the menu. Friday night is steak and sharing platters night and the pizzas are again available as they are on Saturdays. For those of a musical disposition, Tuesday would be the night to go; it's open mic three nights a month and a folk night on the other. YHBW.
We've taken the opportunity to watch the DVD of HMS Pinafore again and enjoyed it if anything even more than the first time.
Having stuffed ourselves with three courses last night, I'm having a low fat healthy eating night tonight. The rib eye steaks from Coates are very lean...
