Sorting out day

Whilst all these other poor souls have to go back to work (hi, Elanor ;) ) we've been having a day to do ordinary, sorting out stuff on board. Loads of laundry have been washed, though there's not been a chance to tumble them as a lot of other moorers have had the same idea.

We walked into the village and posted Sheila's boots, popping into the Co-op afterwards for such vital items as coleslaw. Back in the marina, we nipped into the office to buy an electric card and to catch up with some gossip, then went on to the Farm Shop for bread.

Once more in the boat, it was lunchtime. Sheila did some banking and lodge booking type stuff afterwards. Meanwhile, I've been looking at using an application called Handbrake to rip our DVDs, though there's the same ambiguity about the legal situation as there used to be about CDs. It seems only right that you can create backup copies of DVDs that you own, but of course that makes it all too easy to "lend" the file to other members of the family.

It certainly can't be right to copy a DVD you've borrowed, or, I guess, to sell the DVD once you've ripped it.

Hmmm.....

Meanwhile, the Japanese supplier of the problem camera has just refunded not only what I paid him but my import costs as well, so all's well that ends well. I'm out by the return postage cost, which will teach me to be more careful buying from overseas, especially something which uses onscreen menus and the like.

Tonight, a meat free meal, pasta and cheese sauce with fancy pasta from the Farm Shop.

Oh yes, one more thing: if you fancy an older but still very good Braidbar, number 31, Talisman, is up for sale on Apollo Duck. Built in 1997, she's got many, many more years of boating in her; Braidbars go on for practically ever.

He's back, he's back, he's back! As the first day back at work has been particularly tiresome, two posts to catch up on was just what the doctor ordered! Thank you!

And a very happy new year to you both :-)

If you are "ripping" video DVD's I hope you are also rendering them to AVI or MP4 format. That will reduce them to approx one sixth of their original size without adversely affecting the quality!

Yeah, handbrake defaults to MP4, but thanks for the tip.

All the best
