Getting boaty stuff done

I won't be blogging regularly whilst we are hanging around here at Poynton and not actually boating, but I’ll try and do a post from time to time. Yesterday we agreed the work we’re having done with Peter – pressure of work in the yard and the Bank Holiday weekend means it won’t actually start until next Wednesday, but in the meantime we are welcome to stay here on the Braidbar online mooring which suits us just fine.

We’ve been very busy today and are now pleasantly weary. Straight after breakfast we washed the port side of the boat. We’d run out of the fancy Craftmaster boat wash, so used some basic multisurface cleaner we’d originally bought for the lodge when we were renting it out. I was a bit worried about how it would interact with the Craftmaster polish, especially as it doesn't need rinsing, so tried a test patch which looked fine.

After a break for coffee and hot chocolate from the Trading Post, we pulled back onto the shop mooring and got a pump out and filled the diesel tank. It was then virtually lunchtime, so we went back on our proper mooring to eat. After lunch, we reversed onto the water point and filled that tank.

Back on our own mooring again, I left the engine running and we polished the port side. It has actually come up better than the starboard side that had been washed with the Craftmaster stuff. I suspect that the multisurface cleaner was a bit more aggressive and had stripped off a lot of old polish, allowing us to get a better shine with the fresh stuff. Since the Craftmaster is about £15 for a smallish bottle and the cheapo was £3 for 1.5 litres, there’s a moral in there somewhere.

Once we’d recovered with the aid of ice creams and pop from the Trading Post (Andy Bailey has done really well out of us today) we called in at the office to pick up some post and have a discussion/natter with Susan Mason.

We’re now looking forward to a quiet evening in the boat…
