A quiet day at Mercia

It wasn't very cold last night, and didn't in the event snow very much, just a dusting on the pontoons, though it's forecast to be very frosty tonight. We've had a bit of a pottering day after the exertions of the week so far. I got the paper from the shop, and later in the day Lloyd on Alice announced that they were going to fill their water tank and could they borrow our hose reel, as there's still just the one tap working on each pontoon.

This encouraged Sheila to run a much needed washload, so that we have a supply of clean undies again. After it was done, we topped up the tank, then lent the hose to Bridget and Ken on Waveney to do the same. I've been running the dehumidifier in the saloon, as the bits of washing that can't be tumbled are hanging up in there. It's collected a bit of water, so that's that much less to condense on the galley Houdini.

Sheila and I spent a bit of time discussing the candidates for the boaters' places on the CRT Council, then I went online to vote. I must say the Electoral Reform Society online system is very straightforward; you get a set of pull downs for 1st, 2nd, 3rd choice and so on. Select the candidate you want for each until you are indifferent, confirm your choices and job done.

Why can't all elections be like that? I know, it would be a bit tricky to do it for Parliamentary stuff, with the need to deal with those who don't have internet access, and a much greater risk of people trying to get multiple votes, but it was all so easy.

We've also started thinking about when we're going to set off for Poynton. The current cold spell is due to finish over the weekend, so if we want to be up there by say the 7th of March, we might leave here on the 24th of February, and take our time heading that way. We shall see; there's plenty of time to assess the outlook for rain and gales, which will be the next challenge, no doubt.

That reminds me, must wash the mooring lines before we go – the winter's nearly over already, where did the time go?
