Hanging about

After opening on Friday, the river section has closed again today after the rain we had in the past 24 hours. This is a bit tedious, to say the least, but there's nothing we can do about it. From reports received, we wouldn't have wanted to try it on Friday anyway.

Today we got the washing up to date, and went to a National Gardens Scheme Open Garden this afternoon. It involved a walk to Findern and then about 25 minutes to go round the garden, which was a complex affair with lots of nooks and crannies; a really good effect, with loads of trellises dividing the various sections and well covered with clematis, honeysuckle and climbing roses.

The entry fee of £7 each seemed a lot, but included a luscious cream tea, with sandwiches and cake as well as the scones, cream and jam. All in all, a great way to fill in an afternoon.

We're now waiting for Elanor to turn up with Sally for us to look after tonight and tomorrow morning; tomorrow afternoon we'll all go to this fun dog show, and take the opportunity to check up on the state of the river section.

Flood lock opened at Newark Thursday so moved off yesterday. We haven't got very far as we are now stuck on Beeston Cut before Beeston Lock. River level well into the red and after a conversation with the Sawley Lock Keeper Cranfleet Cut flood lock is closed again and will be, at least for this weekend.
