A good day's work

We're quite weary today, so I'll be brief…

After a lazy start, we turned to and washed the port gunwale. I'd already popped across to the marina shop for the paper, but we still needed some bread and meat, so while the gunwale was drying off in the sun, we walked into the village.

Getting back from there, we grabbed a cup of coffee and checked email and stuff. There was just time afterwards to get the painting done; Sheila masked off the edges of the area whilst I got out the gear, then she leant skilfully against the boat whilst I wielded the mini roller.

It took a bit longer than anticipated, naturally, but went quite smoothly. We had a belated lunch followed by some more computer stuff and paper reading.

I've taken off the masking tape now, and it all looks pretty good, if I say so myself.

We couldn't put the fenders back whilst the paint was drying, of course, so with Geoff's agreement we used the spare ends of the mooring lines to tie across to his boat next to us.

I'll undo those and put the fenders back last thing; Andy Russell's Gunwale Black is very quick drying, but it's good to let it set as hard as possible before rubbing it with the fenders.

We're expecting Elanor any minute now; she said "mid-afternoon" but that's a bit of a moveable concept with her.

Oh, one final thing; if anyone's looking for a second hand/pre-loved Braidbar, Priscilla has now sold, but the 1995 boat, Hawkeye, is just up on the ABNB website. £50k for just under 60 feet isn't as cheap as some, but she looks in lovely nick, and she's on a Gary Gorton shell, one of the best of the shell builders.
