Raining off and on

It was, as I said, raining like stink yesterday, and it's not today, much, but it's going to tomorrow, and then not on Sunday. I don't think we're going to have a white Christmas, somehow. In terms of getting a pump out when we need one, this is fine, but otherwise it's pretty horrible, frankly. Even when it's not officially raining, like today, there's a persistent chilly Scotch mist hanging about.

Heigh ho, what can't be cured must be endured and all that. Al least the world didn't end today, not that many were surprised, and it's the Solstice, so we can look forward to the days starting to get longer in due course. As I've said on here before, thanks to characteristics of simple harmonic functions, there won't be much noticeable difference for a while, but it's the thought that counts, as they say.

Last night's quiz was another hoot, though we had a much tougher quiz master; bring back Jules, say I. We came second again, with a score of 45 out of about 75, three behind the winners. We were very fortunate to have Stephen and Jayne in the team, as there were a lot of music questions, one of their strengths.

I noticed that quizmaster Richard stood with his back to the fire door all the time he was giving the answers; I don't know if he feared a lynch mob, but I wouldn't have been surprised. I didn't actually see him check that he had his car keys in his pocket, mind…

A lazy start today by our standards, though we still heard the final hour of the Today programme, and then did stuff in the boat until after coffee. A walk down to the village got a further supply of goodies, so that we won't need to venture out much tomorrow. Elanor is leaving the hound with us for the day whilst she does stuff, and has agreed to give us a lift to Betty's to collect the meat.

This afternoon we had a walk round the marina; the sun did shine briefly, but then retreated into the swirling mists again.

A quiet night tonight after all the exertions of the past few days, and in preparation for the jollification to come.

White or wet, I hope you both have a very good Christmas.
