A little bit more activity

The volunteer session was canceled today because of the weather – it's a bit tricky cutting off the branches that have been marked with white paint when all the branches are covered in snow – but we went and had breakfast in the Willow Tree anyway. We were the first in there today, I think, but the breakfast was well cooked as always.

After we'd eaten, we spent some time gritting the slope down onto the spine that runs down the centre of our pontoon cluster and the bit of the path leading to the pedestrian gate. In both cases the snow had packed down, thawed a bit and then refrozen as ice. Spreading a mix of grit and salt has made all the difference, the ice has broken up and softened and it's now quite easy to walk up the slope without studs on your boots.

After that, we had a quiet time in the boat, reading the paper and the like. I also took time to update our cruising plans in the column over there on the right ->

Elanor and Sally came over for the afternoon, so I went with them to have a good old charge about in the field. Sally has discovered that if she shoves her head down the rabbit holes in these conditions, she ends up with some fetching snow on her eyebrows.

They've not long gone; Sheila's doing the washing up whilst I do this blog post as always. She's also pondering the conundrum I've set her, namely "What would you like me to do with the chicken fillets tonight?"

And she knows that "Cook them" is not an acceptable answer…
