Still wintry

We had about another inch of snow overnight, which had frozen by the time we got up this morning. It's continued to snow in a desultory way all day, thought it seems almost to have stopped by now. I bought some supplies from the marina shop this morning, saving us a trip into the village. We're a bit low on meat, but as it's meat free Monday, I'm going to do pasta in cheese sauce tonight.

Sheila ran a washload, just enough stuff to keep us going for the week, as well as putting in some time sweeping the fresh snow off the pontoon. We had to add some salt and grit to get the worst of the ice off; it's forecast to dry up but freeze harder for the rest of the week, so getting the walkways clear can only be good.

This afternoon, we watched the first episode of my box set of Travelling Man. Set in mid 80s, it stars Leigh Lawson as an ex drug squad cop cruising the canals in his narrowboat, hunting for his son and the man who framed him and got him two years inside.

It's even better than I remembered, especially seen through our more experienced eyes. Location spotting adds to the entertainment; it was a Granada production so was mostly shot on the waterways around Manchester. This can disrupt the suspension of disbelief a bit; he was supposed to be on the Gloucester and Sharpness in this episode, despite the Weaver flats and the boatyard at Preston Brook featuring quite strongly.

There's a hint in the weather outlook that it's going to thaw over the weekend, but I'm not believing it yet.

We bought "Travelling Man" a couple of years ago. Fantastic nostalgia!

I think we have almost all the episodes on the media tank after copying them off old VHS tapes. Bet ours aren't as good as your DVD's!
