Hope Springs Saturday

What a nice day it's been… Elanor and Sally came over in the morning and the two of them and I went for a walk to the gravel pits, an abbreviated version of the one I did with Sal on Tuesday. It worked well and we were able to let the hound off when we got to the pits. She had a merry charge around, hunting for buns, trying to catch the odd bird and occasionally slipping into the water whilst trying to get a drink.

It took about 90 minutes altogether; Sally was looking reasonably weary by the time we got back to the boat.

After lunch Sheila and I went round to Still Waters to finish the arrangements for using the PO as an accommodation address and having our mail collected from there and taken to the shop for us. All we need to do now is go into the surgery and register as new patients. A job for next week, methinks.

Whilst there, we ran into Stephen, Jayne and son Thomas who's staying with them for a few days. We walked back towards their boat with them, then carried on around the marina, stopping off at Midland Chandlers to buy another of their good value bags of kindling.

On the way, we saw that the sunken boat has been raised already. Asking about it in MC, we were told that the cause was thought to be excessive amounts of rain water entering the bilge through the cruiser stern deck. Apparently the boat didn't have an automatic bilge pump, and her owner has not been very well this winter so couldn't visit often enough to keep it pumped out.

Tomorrow is forecast to be another fine day, which is good to hear as we're joining the marina volunteers planting saplings in the South field nature reserve.

Ah – one thing of note for Sallyphiles: from this week on, she's visiting us on Thursdays rather than Tuesdays, thus letting us get down to Betty's Farm to see the butcher and fishmonger on Tuesday.

Thanks for the heads up on Sally - you would have been inundated by enquiries if her blog had been missing on Tuesday!
